And the winner is…

From 82 songs to 1. Over the past two weeks, The Insatiable Ones (IOs) have been voting for their favourite New Era Suede track. The final three were Life is Golden, Outsiders and Flytipping. Flytipping won with 40% of the vote. Find out below how you can join the celebrations.

In the run-up to the release of Rodge Glass’ book, As One: Remaking Suede, Rachel Apps and Samantha Hand ran a multi-round poll to find out which New Era track would earn the IOs’ top spot.

With each round, favourites were knocked out. People passionately rooted for their favourites, while some even resorted to strategic voting. We all hated to see our beloved songs go — one round at a time.

Round 1: the album tracks

These were the results of Round 1, in which you could vote for your favourite track from each post-reunion album. Unfortunately, quite a few favourites were already eliminated. It just goes to show: one IO’s skip is another IO’s favourite.

These were the results of Round 2, in which you could vote for 10 favourites from the 24 B-sides, bonus tracks and rarities, and 10 favourites from the 21 album tracks that made it through to Round 2.

Round 4

These were the results of Round 4, in which you could vote for your top three B-sides, bonus tracks and rarities, as well as your top three album tracks.

The relentless campaigning over the years for The Sadness In You, The Sadness In Me has turned it into an instant cult favourite, while, according to some voters, there is finally justice for the underrated gems The Blue Hour and Night Thoughts.

Round 5

These were the results of Round 5, in which the three B-sides battled it out against the three album tracks. Sadly, we have to say goodbye to the B-sides at this point. But we can safely call it a moral victory for The Sadness In You, The Sadness In Me.

Final

All 182 votes have been cast. And the winner is a track that’s a live favourite for many IOs, and one that gives the whole band a chance to shine. The amazing Flytipping!
