Marco Rave's Collection

August 2021

Please introduce yourself and tell us about the moment you discovered Suede. 2. What & when was your first Suede purchase?

Hi, my Name is Marco Rave and i live in a small village called Wisch in the north of Germany. I am a Physiotherapist and have 2 sons at the age of 13 and 15.

I first discovered Suede in 1998, when I found Sci-Fi Lullabies 2CD in my local Record Store. You can imagine my surprise when I realised a few weeks later that it was a B-Sides Compilation. I bought the other albums immediately and fell in love with Suede.

I'm collecting Music for at least 30 years, to me it's the most beautiful Hobby in the world. At first I was a Depeche Mode collector, but sold my collection in 1994, and again in 2004. Funny is, that in 2014 I sold all my CDs, so there is a behavior pattern every ten years! :)

We had fantastic collections here in the last months, with many different items and different formats. I really love browsing through others' collections, my favourite part of our Website.

I have to limit myself, so I decided to collect only Vinyl LPs. In the last 3 years I focussed on getting every Suede Pressing LP on Vinyl. I love these small differences of the cover (like when Nikolaj Andersen found the censored cover of DMS), misprints on the label and so on... Suede is the only Band which I am collecting this way, for other Bands I am collecting coloured vinyl releases from Rock, Pop, Dream Pop and Shoegaze (but only one pressing…).

How do you organise your collection?

Nothing special, I just sort them first alphabetically by Artist, and then chronologically (for Suede, UK LPs first).

What's your most treasured item in your collection and why?

Difficult, but I think I would choose the white 10 LP Box Set, because it contains the first time Sci-Fi Lullabies on Vinyl and the essence of Suede in a Box.

My second choice would be the brazilian Promo LP of the debut with Info sheet.

Tell us about your most recent Suede purchase.

The last item I added was the USA Love and Poison RSD Edition. With help from Edd Stark, the regular Edition will show up here in Germany as well.

Is there any item that was in your reach and you now regret not buying?

Not really, because the items I'm looking for are not that limited, and the first thing you have to learn as a collector is patience.

What's on your wishlist for your collection?

I am missing at least 5 pressings (as far as I know), not sure what I will do when I reach my goal. But wait, there are tons of The London Suede re-releases to come... ;)

The only hard to get (and expensive) item will be the brazilian pressing of Dog Man Star.

Thank you for letting me take part here, can't wait till next month!
