Charles Price's Collection

April 2022

Please introduce yourself and tell us about the moment you discovered Suede.

Hi! I’m Charles – currently living in fantastic Hebden Bridge in the Calder Valley! I was aware of Suede around the time of their debut album (who wasn’t?), but was heavily into grunge and garage indie then. I guess I discovered Suede with Coming Up, in 1996. It was the soundtrack to my A Level revision – along with The Manics’ Everything Must Go and Everything But The Girl’s Walking Wounded – on loop!! By the time I had Sci-fi Lullabies, there was no looking back!

What & when was your first Suede purchase?

So, my first Suede purchase was the Coming Up album – on tape! 1996.

How do you organise your collection?

Organise...?

What's your most treasured item in your collection and why?

Oh, maybe, maybe my copies of Coal Black Mornings & Afternoons With The Blinds Down – signed with lyrics from two of my favourite Suede tracks, Trash & Whipsnade (see pics)! Probably as they’re the most personal items.

Tell us about your most recent Suede purchase.

I’m pretty certain it’s the So Young photo-book. A beautiful thing! Have to remember to wash my hands before leafing through it. I’m totally #TeamSimon! There was also the signed Bloodsports poster I won in an auction. One of these two...

Is there any item that was in your reach and you now regret not buying?

Well, it isn’t really an item, but regret not seeing Suede prior to 2003! Yes – my first gig was the ‘last one’ at The Astoria in London. I still recall hearing Brett say “There will be another Suede album, but not just yet!” or something to that effect!

What's on your wish list for your collection?

I’m really hoping to get my mitts on the Sci-Fi Lullabies RSD release. By the time you’re reading this, hopefully I’ll have it!

See you in Europe!
