Dan Nørby Riber's Collection

April 2021

Please introduce yourself and tell us about the moment you discovered Suede.

Hi everyone, I'm Dan and I'm from Denmark - a country Suede has visited many many times over the years.

The first time I heard Suede was when the debut album was released. I heard it at a friend's house – his brother was playing the album in the room next door. My obsession with the band didn't actually start at that moment but a while later. It really kicked off after I saw Suede at the Roskilde Festival in 1995 – that concert changed everything for me and is still the best concert I have ever seen.

What & when was your first Suede purchase?

My first Suede purchase must have been the debut album in 1993 but I actually don't remember anymore.

What's your most treasured item in your collection and why?

My most treasured item?? That’s a tough question as I have many items I treasure very much. But when it comes to records it must be my 12" 'Be my God'. It took me a looong time to locate a copy.

But the most treasured "thing" must be the memories from all the concerts and meetings with the band! I have a lot of memories from afterparties but there is one afterparty that stands out for me as I ended up in my apartment with some friends and Alex Lee. We had a lot of drinks and when Alex had to go back to the hotel he didn't have money for the cab and he had to borrow the money from me. He said he would leave an envelope with the money for me at the hotel as they left the next day. I didn't think he would remember but I went to the hotel and he really did leave the money for me (the letter is in one of the pictures). That small letter always brings back memories of a really fun night!!

Tell us about your most recent Suede purchase.

The most recent Suede purchase is the green version of the Dog Man Star boxset which I bought from Marco Rave.

Is there any item that was in your reach and you now regret not buying?

There are a few records I regret not buying when I had the chance but the one I always remember is the Dog Man Star testpressing with proof sleeve. I have only seen this once and it was really expensive but I have regretted not buying it ever since. If anyone has a copy let me know!!!! 😊

What's on your wishlist for your collection?

Wishlist for my collection? All the releases and variations I don't already own! It's hard being an completist but I love the hunt for rare records and love/appreciate all the help I have received from fellow IOs over the years. THANK YOU!

And thank you to all the IOs for making the Suedeworld such a nice place to be!
